26 May 2015 | Tennis Queensland
During the month of May, several officiating courses have been held around the state, including a Line Umpires course in Brisbane, Court Supervisor courses in Innisfail, Gold Coast and Townsville. Thank you to the participants for supporting these courses, and to our educators for guiding our participants as they start on their officiating journey. If you see some ‘new’ faces court side, come and say ‘hi’.
Nationally, officiating is currently transitioning to a Tennis Australia Officiating Membership. For officials, this means you will deal directly with the Tennis Australia officiating department for all officiating needs – membership, uniforms, renewal of accreditation, tournament applications and appointments. This change will see the current structure of Tennis Officials Australia, QLD division cease to exist in an operational capacity. In the upcoming months, you will start to see officials wear a new national officiating uniform.
From 1 July, all accredited officials across Australia, must be a registered member of Tennis Australia Officiating if you wish to continue officiating. Additionally, current accredited officials will have been emailed last week their Open Book Test, Eye Test form for submission by 21 June. These reaccreditation requirements for all officials, link in with the new two-year membership. If you have any questions about the national officiating changes or the reaccreditation, please feel free to contact Tennis Australia’s Officiating Development Coordinator in QLD, Cheryl Jenkins.
Email [email protected] or phone 07 3120 7906 (available Tuesday and Thursday).
We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Queensland’s Simon Cannavan, all the best as he officiates on the clay courts at Roland Garros this week.
