Ben Mitchell has soared in this week’s edition of the ATP rankings thanks to his success at the ATP Challenger event in Canberra.

The 22-year-old vaulted 58 spots to world No.247 after capturing the Canberra Tennis International title, the biggest of his career.

Mitchell, from Queensland, moves closer to his career-high mark of No.204, set in March this year.

In the Canberra final he beat good friend Luke Saville, who improved his ranking 16 spots to 187th.

Also making a big move was Matt Reid, who jumped 55 places to world No.304.

Reid was a semifinalist in Canberra, where he fell to eventual champ Mitchell.

The women were also in Canberra last week, and Kimberly Birrell continued her excellent Pro Tour form.

The 17-year-old reached the semifinals and moved 49 places in the rankings to a career-best position of No.361.

Just one month ago, Birrell was ranked outside the top 600.

She’s just one spot outside the Australian top 10; Birrell is No.12.
