Sam Stosur has overcome the stiff challenge of Jelena Ostapenko to advance to the second round of the women’s singles in Rio.
Stosur beat the Latvian teen 1-6 6-3 6-2 on Tuesday.
The win sets up a second-round meeting with Japanese lefty Misaki Doi, who beat Wimbledon quarterfinalist Yaroslava Shvedova.
Stosur beat Doi just a few months ago in the opening round at Roland Garros and leads their head-to-head series 3-0.
Fellow Aussie Daria Gavrilova was unable to join Stosur in round two, falling to the mighty world No.1 Serena Williams.
Gavrilova went down 6-4 6-2, but did come out on top of this spectacular rally on Centre Court at the Olympic tennis venue.
