A tough-first round assignment against Camila Giorgi at the US Open is the focus of Sam Stosur’s attention as she arrives in Flushing Meadows for her 13th Grand Slam campaign in New York.

The Australian is seeded 16th at the year’s final major event, landing in a stacked segment of the draw headed by Serena Williams.

Her lead-up form on North American hardcourts has been patchy, with second-round exits in Montreal and Cincinnati on either side of a third-round run at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Despite a comparative lack of matches to when she arrived at Roland Garros brimming with confidence after an impressive claycourt season, Stosur insisted she still felt good about her game ahead of her first-career meeting with the Italian.

“There haven’t been a stack of matches – it just feels like it’s been hectic and crazy and I’ve been to all these other places. Not played as many (matches) as I wanted but the last week or so I’ve had really good practices and hitting the ball better and feeling better and better, so hopefully that’s a good sign going into my first round,” she said.
