Tennis Queensland is very pleased to announce the appointment of Michael James as its new Board Director.
Mr James is a professional board director with a wealth of experience in strategic planning, business acumen, risk management and corporate governance. He is the Director and Founder of Evolve, a professional advisory and coaching organization. Previously, he has held positions as the Global Business and Development Manager of Cardno (engineering consultancy), CEO of Napier and Blakely (surveying and project management), and Chief Strategy Officer for Queensland Rail. He also comes to the role with decades of board experience with various organizations such as Body Corporate Systems, CORE architecture, CEO Dynamics and Queensland Rail.
Mr James also has a long history with the sport, competing around the country as a player himself, and now the father of two elite juniors.
“I am pleased with the members’ decision to appoint Michael James as a Director of Tennis QLD. Michael brings to the board a strong background in corporate governance with the unique understanding of the sport as a player,” said President of Tennis Queensland Mark Bloomfield.
Also decided at Saturday’s Annual General Meeting was the reappointment of Mark Bloomfield as President of Tennis Queensland. Mark was re-elected after his first year as President.
“I am delighted to be elected as President of Tennis QLD for a further term of three years. I, together with my board, look forward to meeting all challenges and making tennis part of life for every Queenslander,” said Mr Bloomfield.
Also voted on at the AGM on Saturday, was the induction of Milton Rothman as a Life Member of Tennis Queensland. Rothman has dedicated his life to playing, coaching, volunteering, and administering for the sport of tennis. Most recently, Milton was Treasurer and Company Member of the Metropolitan Regional Assembly. He has been integral to the growth of tennis in Queensland over the last thirty years, his most notable success coming in the form of John Millman, who he guided to a 14 and under National Title.
“For the first time in many years, Tennis QLD members have inducted a Life Member. It is only fitting that Milton Rothman after a lifetime of service to our sport as a player, coach, administrator and volunteer be admitted to this prestigious position,” said Mr Bloomfield.
The Tennis Queensland Board would also like to thank Ross Rolfe, who is stepping down after almost a decade of service.
“Ross Rolfe has contributed in so many ways to tennis QLD over the past decade. He has supported our relationships with government and the business community and been instrumental in establishing the QLD Tennis Centre and our regional facilities. It has been a privilege to have Ross serve on out board and we sincerely thank him for his contribution.”
