The Brisbane International qualifying rounds got underway at the Queensland Tennis Centre yesterday with a talented young line-up of Queenslanders vying for their chance to make the tournament’s main draw. Sarah Tomic and Lizette Carbera headed up the women’s qualifying yesterday with mixed results.
Starting off the day, 19 year old Lizette Cabrera from Townsville booked her second-round match early with a 4-6 6-1 6-0 win over Julia Boserup of the USA.
Later in the day Gold Coast star, Sarah Tomic, lost to Kateryna Kozlova from the Ukraine, 6-4 6-4, resulting in an early exit from her local tournament.
Today’s line-up featured two Queensland locals. Once again, Cabrera took to the court and fought a hard battle against Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic. Despite unwavering support from local spectators, Cabrera lost 6-4 7-5.
