Bernard Tomic admits he needs to step up the aggression in his on court game after his Australian Open campaign was halted.
Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt said Tomic was “too passive” after resurgent Brit Dan Evans ended his campaign on Friday night with a stirring 7-5 7-6 (2) 7-6 (3) third-round triumph at Hisense Arena.
“I have chances to hit the ball (harder), but I’m so used to playing my game,” Tomic said.
“I rely on what’s gotten me in the years in this sport. That’s my game. I rely on that a lot. I tend to fall back on that when it’s tough times on court.
“I need to be more aggressive, that’s for sure, with my forehand, backhand – but you need to work on those things.
“I have the hands, that’s for sure, and the game to play in this sport, but I need to improve attacking, being on top of the ball, playing shorter rallies.
“I’m not going to grind for five hours with these guys.”
