Members of Australia’s Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas team have spoken of their collective pride at representing their country in the upcoming Asia / Oceania Final Qualifying event.

Rinky Hijikata (NSW), Stefan Storch (Vic) and Dane Sweeny (Qld) have been fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the final qualifier, which gets underway in New Delhi this Sunday.

Below, we hear from some potential future stars as they strive to emulate the feats of Todd Woodbridge (1986 and ’87) and Bernard Tomic (2007), both of whom won the Junior Davis Cup before breaking through in the professional ranks.

Rinky Hijikata

“Being selected in the Junior Davis Cup team is an absolute honour. To be given the chance to play for your country is as good as it gets, and something everyone aims for. The Davis Cup also means so much because it is one of only a few times in tennis where you can play in a team, and play for one another.

Dane Sweeny

“Playing the Junior Davis Cup has been a dream of mine since I started playing tennis. Wearing the green and gold is a great chance to do my country proud, and play against some of the best players in the world in my age group. I still can’t believe I’ve been selected in the team, it’s a real honour.”

Stefan Storch

“Being chosen for the Junior Davis Cup team is an amazing opportunity and gives me a great chance to play against some top players. It feels incredible because only three players are picked from each country, so hopefully it will be a big step to better things in the future.”
