Australia’s Junior Davis Cup team impressed on the opening day of the Asia / Oceania Final Qualifying event in New Delhi, winning all three rubbers without dropping a set against Indonesia.
The team did so without Queensland’s Dane Sweeny, who hurt his arm in India and has been ruled out of contention for the rest of the tournament.
Stefan Storch (Vic) got Australia off to the perfect start with a 6-2 6-1 win over Bagus Laksono Setyadi, before Rinky Hijikata (NSW) followed suit, beating Ari Fahresi 6-2 6-2.
Hijikata was equally impressive in the doubles, partnering with Ken Cavrak (Vic) for a 6-3 6-2 victory over their Indonesian counterparts.
Next up for Australia in the group stage is Singapore, who lost to Korea 3-0 in their opening match of the qualifier.
While in the girl’s Junior Fed Cup, Queensland’s Olivia Gadecki has arrived in New Delhi for the competition which starts next week.
