Twenty-two year old Tom Fancutt has become the fourth Fancutt – and third generation player in his family – to win the Bruce Lynton Jaguar Land Rover Rosebowl Championships.
The tournament, which first began in 1956, has become an institution on the Gold Coast with an honour board that features great names of the game such as Mal Anderson, Pat Cash, Scott Draper and Bernard Tomic.
Tom Fancutt became the third generation player in his family to win the tournament in 2017, with previous wins by Trevor Fancutt (1959), Daphne Fancutt (1958), and Charlie Fancutt (1980, 1984).
He won the final against 11th seed Nash Vollenweider in straight sets.
“For me,the Rosebowl has always been a tournament that I wanted to win, because of the fact a few of my family members had won it,” said Tom.
“It’s funny the guys I train with and even some of the coaches and my family joke about ‘being on the board’ because of the legends that grace it. For me, it is really special to be the fourth Fancutt and third generation to win it. Pressure on the next Fancutt now!”
