Wednesday 2nd January saw Local and State Government descend on the Brisbane International for the 2019 Local Government Forum. Following a welcome, from Tennis Queensland President, Mark Bloomfield and opening speech from the Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe, Minister or Local Government, Racing & Multicultural Affairs; the forum kicked off with Mark Handley, Brisbane International General Manager & Tennis Queensland CEO, presenting the Tennis Queensland achievements in local and state government for 2018.
Following the opening addresses, the forum showcased and informed attendees about how Tennis is helping clubs and LGAs through available research and resources; in addition to the next phase of the Queensland Tennis Facility Strategy 2028, which included a presentation of the completed facility plan with Brisbane City Council. The topics were presented by Steve Marquis, Tennis Australia Head of Places, and Elia Hill, Tennis Queensland Government Relations Manager, respectively.
Upon closing, forum delegates were provided with a networking opportunity whilst watching the day’s play on Pat Rafter Arena. Thank you to those who attended and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
Parliamentary Friends of Tennis
The 2019 Brisbane International Forum and Event series concluded with a Parliamentary Friends of Tennis Event on Saturday 5th January. Seven Members of Parliament participated in Fast4 tennis, before watching the Men’s and Women’s Singles Semi-Finals. It was a great success and we look forward to welcoming more Members to the event in the future.
