Three thousand Easter tennis treats, including racquets, balls and Hot Shots classes will be given away in South East Queensland from today to mark the two week countdown to the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semi-final against Belarus.
500 Hot Shots racquets will be handed out across Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast in the next 14 days, with a further 500 racquets presented to children attending the Fed Cup tie at Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane on Easter weekend, April 20 and 21.
Every racquet recipient will also be given access to a free Hot Shots lesson with participating coaches at affiliated clubs.
A share of 1000 Dunlop tennis balls will also be sent to clubs who bring at least 10 members to the Fed Cup tie.
Tennis Queensland’s Head of Participation, Adam Cheyne says the Easter tennis giveaway is about ensuring that the Fed Cup tie has a lasting legacy in South East Queensland.
“We are very excited to host this important international event in Brisbane and get behind the Australian team as they strive to make the Fed Cup final,” Mr Cheyne said
“Tennis Queensland’s Easter tennis giveaway will make it easier for children who are inspired to play tennis over the school holidays to pick up a racquet and find their local club. “
Australia’s Fed Cup squad which defeated the U.S.A in February will be led by Ipswich’s Ashleigh Barty. The full team and the Belarussian team will be announced on April 10.
