12 October 2016 | Tennis Queensland
The annual Clermont ICPA Sports Camp was held on Sunday 21st August to Friday 26th August 2016.
This Sports Camp hosts geographically isolated children from Central Queensland’s small schools & schools of distance education from years 4-7 giving them the rare opportunity to play team sports with their peers.
115 children experienced a week like no other, a 6 day intensive coaching clinic, delivered by qualified coaches in a range of 8 team sports, including tennis, (Ken Hick & Laura David were the coaches for tennis).
The clinic provides much needed social interaction for remote students & encourages independence, self-motivation & confidence.
The week helps bridge the huge step for many students continuing their education away from home at boarding schools by developing a positive attitude to sportsmanship & promoting the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle. Students learn to cooperate with teammates, coaches & other volunteers in a supportive & nurturing environment.
The Clermont ICPA Sports Camp committee is made up of dedicated parents of rural & remote children, whose enthusiasm & commitment to the success of the ICPA Sports Camp is humbled by the continued financial support they receive from the local community to ensure isolated children have the opportunity that most Australian children take for granted – participation in team sport.
It is a wonderful sports camp where children have an absolute ball & is very important to the Central Region! Well done to everyone involved!
