Find out how you can qualify to compete for the one of the various Sunshine Coast Teams below!

The BOLT 2 BRISBANE is the annual Coloured Ball State Finals. Held in Brisbane, teams from the Sunshine Coast, Metropolitan, Gold Coast and the South Region compete to crown the Champion Region as well as an individual winner in the Orange and Green Ball divisions for both boys and girls. The BOLT 2 BRISBANE is for Orange and Green Ball players only, there is no Red Ball Division.

Players will compete in a continuous Monrad draw, providing each player with a minimum of 3-4 matches. This is a singles only event, there is no doubles event.

In 2024, the Sunshine Coast Team finished 3rd

Selection Criteria:

The Sunshine Coast Storm BOLT 2 BRISBANE Team is made up of 16 players. 8 Orange Ball players (4 boys, 4 girls) and 8 Green Ball players (4 boys, 4 girls).

To determine which players, earn their place on the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team, a points race is tallied across the 9 x Sunshine Coast Coloured Ball Competition Tournaments. The Top 2 x highest finishing players on the CBC Points Race for each age division will receive an invitation to be on the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team. The final 2 positions for each division will be given to the finalists of the Regional Qualifying Event.

To be eligible for the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team or to enter the Regional Qualifying Final Tournament, a player must have competed in a minimum of 4 x Sunshine Coast CBC Tournaments and reside on the Sunshine Coast.

If selected for the BOLT 2 BRISBANE, a player will not be able to compete in the Battle of the Sands of JDS State Finals. BOLT 2 BRISBANE competitors are eligible to nominate for the QLD Junior Teams Carnival.

Please note: Selection for the Sunshine Coast Team is also dependent upon behaviour both on and off the court at events during the year. Should a player’s behaviour or their cohort be deemed inappropriate or where there are repeatable offences, players will not be selected despite ratings or ability.

BATTLE OF THE SANDS

The Battle of the Sands is an annual team’s competition which in 2025, will be held on the Sunshine Coast. Teams from the Sunshine Coast, Metropolitan, Gold Coast and the South Region compete to crown the Champion Region as well as a winning team in each age group.

Players will compete in a continuous monrad draw, providing each player with a minimum of 3-4 matches. This is a singles only event, there is no doubles event.

In 2024, the Sunshine Coast Team finished 3rd

Selection Criteria:

The Sunshine Coast Storm Battle of the Sands Team is made up of 16 players. 2 boys and 2 girls in each age division consisting of 11/U, 13/U, 15/U and 17/U.

To determine which players earn their place on the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team, a points race is tallied across the 9 Sunshine Coast JDS Tournaments. The Top 2 x highest finishing players on the JDS Points Race for each age division following the selection of the JDS State Finals Team, will receive an invitation to be on the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team for the Battle of the Sands.

The points received from the Regional Qualifying Event will also be included in the points race.

To be eligible, a player must have competed in a minimum of 4 x Sunshine Coast JDS Tournaments and reside on the Sunshine Coast.

If selected for the Battle of the Sands, a player will not be able to compete in the BOLT 2 BRISBANE of JDS State Finals. Battle of the Sands competitors are eligible to nominate for the QLD Junior Teams Carnival.

The JDS State Finals is the annual State Finals for JDS Players. Held in Rockhampton, teams from throughout Queensland will compete to crown the Champion Region as well as an individual winner in each age group.

Players will compete in tie’s consisting of singles and doubles rubbers from each player from each age group within a region.

In 2024, the Sunshine Coast Team finished 2nd

Selection Criteria:

The Sunshine Coast Storm JDS State Finals Team is made up of 16 players. 2 boys and 2 girls in each age division consisting of 11/U, 13/U, 15/U and 17/U.

To determine which players earn their place on the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team, a points race is tallied across the 9 Sunshine Coast JDS Tournaments. The player who finishes the series as the top point scorer (following the 9 Sunshine Coast JDS Events) for each age division will receive an invitation to be on the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team. The 2nd position on the Sunshine Coast Team for each age division will be given to the winner of the Regional Qualifying Final Event.

To be eligible, a player must have competed in a minimum of 4 x Sunshine Coast JDS Events and reside on the Sunshine Coast.

If selected for the JDS State Finals, a player will not be able to compete in the BOLT 2 BRISBANE or Battle of the Sands. JDS State Finals competitors are eligible to nominate for the QLD Junior Teams Carnival.

The QLD Junior Teams Carnival is the largest junior team’s competition in Australia. Held on the Gold Coast, teams from throughout Queensland as well as interstate and international teams will compete to crown the Champion Region as well as an individual team winner in each age group. Along with the Teams event, there is the joint Roy Emerson Junior Championship.

In 2024, the Sunshine Coast Team finished 3rd.

Date: 13 – 17 December 2025

Selection Criteria:

The Sunshine Coast Storm QLD Junior Teams Carnival Team is made up of 48 players. 6 boys and 6 girls in each age division consisting of 12/U, 14/U, 16/U and 18/U.

Nominations for the Sunshine Coast Storm Representative Team will open in September. The Top 6 boys and girls in each age group based off UTR will be selected for the team.

To be eligible, a player must have competed in a minimum of 4 x Sunshine Coast Tournaments and reside on the Sunshine Coast. This includes Sunshine Coast CBC Events, JDS Events, Junior Tour Events and Open Events.
