The Match Play Review as part of the TQ 2024 Strategy brings together immediate necessity of innovation and flexibility to provide Match Play opportunities in the COVID 19 recovery. It also takes the opportunity to have a comprehensive look at the current competitive tennis landscape and the offering for players of all level, age and residence across Queensland.

Findings have been presented to the Match Play Committee, the Tennis Queensland Board and a number of stakeholders who were part of the consultation process of the Review.
Find below a high-level summary oft the Review findings.
Findings of the TQ Match Play Review have been approved by the TQ board and have been passed on as an official submission into the TA Competitive Review which is currently being undertaken.
Below you can find an update on the progress and implementation of the findings grouped into the five pillars of the Review:
PATHWAY
- UTR is now used as acceptance for AR tournaments and is targeted to be used as grading tool for JDS events in most regions. (complete)
- First trials of UTR sign-in consolation have been succesfully implemented across multiple tournaments. (in progress)
- Creation of regional advisory groups to lead regional match play strategy (in progress). Expressions of interest are being collated.
- 4 spots for team events have been identified in the 2021 calendar. In the first slot in January the 2021 Metropolitan Junior Teams Competition was successfully conducted across 3 days and 3 venues (ongoing).
- UTR Road to Brisbane and UTR Junior State Championships events have been completed with extremely positive feedback from participants and parents (complete)
- Tournament director resources and workshop recordings are available to TQ affiliates. (complete)
CALENDAR
- Regional calendars are in the process of being completed. Most will be based on quarterly releases in line with the AR calendar. (ongoing)
- Team competitions and fixtures have recommenced in term 1.
- Plans for a Mackay Tennis League have commenced. (in progress)
- Conversations on a review for JDS State Finals have commenced with the Central Regional Assembly. (in progress)
RATINGS/RANKINGS
- UTR is now used as acceptance for AR tournaments. Acceptance lists for main draw, qualifying and reserve lists are based on UTR instead of Australian Ranking. However, seedings are still based on the current Australian Ranking. (ongoing)
- UTR is also used for acceptance lists for National Championships.
- 75 UTR events were conducted in 2020 from grassroot to sub-professional level leading into the UTR Junior State Championships and Road to Brisbane State Finals.
- Option for accepting payments through stripe on UTR platform is now available and functional.
- 2 UTR Pro Series events were held at Queensland Tennis Centre in March with the eexpectation for additional events being added later in the year.
BEHAVIOUR
- Etiquette video for junior event has been created and is being distributed to the playing group in the lead-up of JDS and JT events. A project group has been created to design a suite of etiquette videos addressing the basics of etiquette. (in progress)
- The video with focus on match readiness, calls and disputes, sportsmanship and scoring are planned to be accessible to all JDS circuits and Junior Tournaments in Queensland: (complete)
- New Code of Behaviour has been published and is now operational including a section with positive behaviour expectations. (complete)
- Along with the new Code of Behaviour Tennis Australia has introduced a Disciplinary Review Panel (DRP) which will help consistency and speed in disciplinary procedures. (ongoing)
- Tournament Director online course education resources shared with several tournaments and stakeholders. (complete)
OFFICIATING
- Online Community Officiating pathway is available to affiliates, volunteers and anyone interested (ongoing)
- Officiating Rebate Program has been proposed to increase attraction of officials and provide financial incentive for clubs. (in progress)
- A new officiating strategy is in the design phase and will be socialised with the officiating group in the coming weeks.
