Throughout the 2010/11 summer season four South Australian tennis associations (Eastern Districts, Hills, Barossa & Light and Pt Lincoln) piloted an MLC Tennis Hot Shots Orange Ball competition which delivered successful results.

Andrew Wilson, Community Tennis Officer said “The MLC Tennis Hot Shots Orange Ball competition was created to prepare children 7-9 years with the necessary skills and confidence to eventually play on a full-size court with a yellow ball.”

Through the recent Orange Ball competition we have seen over 200 children’s confidence grow as they learn to serve, rally and score in a match and having success straight away!”

MLC Tennis Hots Shots sees children progressing through the three different stages (red, orange and green) as their ability improves.  At each stage, players use low-compression balls in combination with three different court sizes. Slower balls give players more time and control, making tennis easier to play.

For further information on, please view the MLC Tennis Hot Shots learning to play poster, which outlines the pathway for each colour stage and will help you decide which stage best suits your child.

Eastern Districts Tennis Association will be continuing the MLC Tennis Hot Shots Orange Ball competition throughout the winter season commencing Saturday 7 May (8.30am – 12.00pm noon).  If you are interested in getting your child involved in the Orange Ball competition (recommended age 7-9 years) please call Tennis SA on 7224 8100.

We are hopeful that more associations around the state will introduce this format for the 2011/12 summer season and beyond.
