Tennis SA under the guidance of David Grainer (Club Professional Coach) delivered an Intro to MLC Tennis Hot Shots Coaching Course for seven Active After School Community Coordinators at Memorial Drive, North Adelaide on Friday 1st July.
Anne Marie Handke, Senior Community Tennis Officer says, “The Intro to MLC Tennis Hot Shots coaching courses are introductory coaching courses produced by Tennis Australia and supported by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The course is particularly relevant for people working with children; however, it is also relevant to beginner coaches of any age group.”
Course content is directed at children’s sport and covers basic sport skills, group organisation, planning, child development, safety aspects, modified games and activities as well as administration of junior programs. It contains two major elements; coaching principles and tennis specific coaching concepts.
This is the first time Active After School Community Coordinators have been involved in the program and Tennis SA is looking forward to continually to build the partnership by implementing the Intro to MLC Tennis Hot Shots Coaching Course into the Active After School Community Coordinators programs.
Active After-school Communities (AASC) program regional coordinator Andrew Milligan said,
“On behalf of the South Australian staff from the AASC program, we wish to thank Anne-Marie Handke and David Grainger for the opportunity to participate in the Introduction to MLC Tennis Hot Shots Coaching Course.
The MLC Tennis Hot Shots program is a fantastic way to introduce primary school aged children to the sport and is great fit for the AASC program because the focus of both programs is on playing games in a fun and inclusive environment. We look forward to combining some MLC Tennis Hot Shots Coaching Courses with the AASC Community Coach Training Program in the future so that more children can experience playing tennis through the AASC program and go on to join their local club.”
