With round one of the NTL being lauded as potentially a new dawn of tennis in South Australia, hopes are high that the momentum will continue tomorrow night at Memorial Drive.
Last week in the Men’s, the Raiders and Titans played out what may already be match of the tournament in a quality encounter that saw the Raiders narrowly win 3-6-36 to 3-6-29. The Dejan Petrovic lead Wanderers however came out of the blocks with a comprehensive win over the Tigers that sees them perched on top of the ladder.
In the Women’s, The Drive and Freighters showed pre-NTL favouritism was well deserved as they both comfortably accounted for the Lions and Servers respectively. The question will be can a contender from the other teams stand up this week?
Men’s
Somerton Park Sharks v Woodville-Glengarry Wanderers
In such a compact format, any points are ‘money in the bank’ so The Wanderers will be out to consolidate their impressive start last week. Somerton however have a red-hot Todd Ley leading their charge. This meeting of first versus second could well live up to its billing.
Broadview Tigers v Rostrevor Raiders
The Tigers bore the brunt of The Wanderers rampaging start and will be calling on the experience of Jason Todd and Martin Richards to front up against a quality Raiders outfit that includes the daunting prospect that is Colin Ebelthite.
Trinity Titans v Goodwood Saints
Goodwood Saints face a battle against a Titan outfit that will be looking for redemption after being knocked off by the Raiders last week. Yuri Bezeruk could hold the key to the Saints chances of pulling off a win against the odds.
Women’s
Flagstaff Freighters v Golden Grove Lions
The Freighters will be ruing that fact that The Drive beat them to top spot last week and will be keen to consolidate a vital top two place on the ladder at this early stage of the season. Phoebe Walker’s win in the singles was the only shining light for the Lions and she will need more support this week otherwise the girls from Golden Grove could face a tough night.
The Drive v Trinity Titans
The Drive were all class in dispatching the Lions last week and well deserving of coming into round 2 in top spot. They will have no time to rest on their laurels however as the Leah Daw-led Titans will be desperate to claim a top 2 spot – the must see fixture of the round.
Goodwood Saint v Gully Servers
With both teams keen to keep touch with the early competition front-runners, victory for either team will be a massive coup whilst a loss would be shattering. This evenly match fixture could prove an enthralling encounter.
All matches played simultaneously at Memorial Drive and Next Generation commencing at 6.15pm.
