South Australia are currently at the halfway point of the Foundation Cup Regional Championships with the National Academy head coach Milo Bradley conducting testing and player pathways sessions to run in line with the U/8, U/10 and U/13 Regional Championships held at Point Lincoln, Littlehampton and Barossa Valley.
The turnout for the Lower Northern regional event played at venues throughout the Barossa on Sunday exceeded expectations with over 90 junior athletes playing across the three age groups, these players came from areas such as Point Turton, Yorketown, Clare and throughout the Barossa and Gawler. The work of the local volunteers and coaches in this region should be commended as the day was run very well and the high number of participants shows the event was promoted well throughout the Lower Northern Region.
Littlehampton Tennis Club hosted the Regional Championships for the Hills, Murray Fleurieu region with over 50 junior athletes participating in the event, the Fleurieu peninsula was well represented at the event with over 10 players travelling up to the hills for the chance to earn a Regional Championship in one of the three age groups contested.
Tennis Australia Coach and Talent Development Manager Brett Mclennan worked closely with local coaches at the event and was impressed with the ability of the regional tyro’s.
“It was really impressed with the turn-out on Sunday at Littlehampton. Although it was very competitive, it was played in great spirit and the game seems to be in a healthy position in the Hills, Murray and Fleurieu region.”
Going forward Port Pirie and Barmera will be hosting their Regional Championships the Monday coming with Mount Gambier to follow on March the 18th.
