Australian tennis great Evonne Goolagong Cawley today launched the Learn Earn Legend! initiative at Kaurna Plains School (Elizabeth, Adelaide).
The Learn Earn Legend! Initiative aims to encourage and support young Indigenous Australians to stay at school, get a job and be a legend for themselves, their family and their community. Through a series of ‘Come and Try’ Days Indigenous children between the ages of five and 15 are provided the chance to have fun and give tennis a try throughout Australia.
Goolagong Cawley having already fulfilled her first dream of playing at Wimbledon says the tennis ambassador role inches her closer to achieving her ‘second dream of seeing as many Indigenous kids playing tennis as possible.”
Learn Earn Legend! Tennis Come and Try Days in South Australia commence this Saturday 28 April at Murray Bridge Lawn Tennis Club, Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge (10.30 am – 3.00 pm) and are run by the Evonne Goolagong Foundation in conjunction with Tennis Australia.
These clinics are designed to encourage young Indigenous Australians to pick up a racquet, have fun and give tennis a real go, with the aim to increase the number of Indigenous girls and boys playing tennis to help improve their health, education and employment opportunities.
