South Australian juniors flew the flag high in Melbourne at the 79th Glen Iris Underage Championship last week.
A 12/under tour was undertaken with nine South Australian athletes competing in the Gold OJT.
South Australian Jeanette Lin won the 12/U singles title in comfortable fashion 6/3, 6/0 against Victorian Jessica Zaviacic.
Athlete Development Manager Rohan Fisher said “Jeanette improved with every match throughout the week. Jeanette’s attitude was an important facet to the week and she played the semi-final and final in a real positive manner”.
Jeanette then made it a double, winning the doubles with fellow South Australia Selina Turulja. Indi-Arna Morris finished 4th in the singles, Selina Turulja finished 5th and Tahlia Van Der Eerden finished 6th.
“The Glen Iris Tournament is a great yard stick for our girls” Fisher said and he was excited with the progression being made by these girls in the past 12 months.
South Australian boys Joonky Nah & Sean Van Rensburg continued the winning success on the final day by taking out the 12/U doubles title. Nah & Van Rensburg defeated Ted Williams and Cooper Wyett 6/2, 6/4 in the final. Other members of the tour were Vanessa Cozamanis, Sebastian Flock & Isabella Ryles.
National Talent Development Coaches Sharon Hambly and Sam Wall were the travelling coaches with Fisher.
“It is great to travel with our athletes and quality coaches to these events” Fisher stated.
“We were able to undertake team meetings each night after dinner which really helped set the tone for the next day”.
The athletes cooked in the room most nights, made their own lunches and snacks throughout the week as well.
“It was a great trip and we look forward to doing it again next year.
