The 2012 Foundation Cup (23 – 27 September) has kicked off at Gawler Tennis Club this week.
The State Foundation Cup is a regional representative teams and individual event for the 13/U age group where players from across regional South Australia play over four days comprising of a two day individual event and two day team round robin event.
Ty Allen, Tournament Director said “Foundation Cup provides regional junior players a pathway to represent their region and State and to access National Academy coaches and state training facilities”
“The state event is a highlight on the regional tennis calendar as it bring the best regionally based 13/U players together to compete across four days of great tennis.” he continues.
From the individual event the four semi finalists in the boys and girls are selected to represent regional South Australia at the National Foundation Cup held in Sydney form the 6th -10th of January.
The Foundation Cup has a very proud history of providing regional junior tennis players an opportunity to represent their region and state and also involves training and development opportunities for regional players.
Players such as Luke Saville and Alex Bolt have come through the Foundation Cup program and both have now progressed to playing on the international stage with Luke winning the 2011 Junior Wimbledon title.
