South Australian athletes continue to make headlines on the National stage with some outstanding results at last week’s 2012 Optus 12’s and 14’s Spring Nationals held in Sydney.

In the 12/U age group, National Academy athlete Jeanette Lin was a finalist in the girls singles, before bouncing back to win the girls doubles title, beating fellow South Australian Selina Turulja and her partner in the final.  In the boys, State Academy athlete Stefan Norodom was also a finalist in the singles and winner of the doubles event, capping off a great week for him personally.

In the 14/U event, National Academy athlete Petra Hule was a finalist in the girls doubles event, and Nicole Kraemer finished 9th, the highest of any other SA athlete in the singles draw.

National Academy head coach, Milo Bradley was extremely proud of all the children who participated in the week and declared that everyone had made progress in areas of their game throughout the week.

“It’s a great experience for our young athletes to travel away and play the best players in the Nation, especially for those who may be travelling without their parents for the first time-they learn to take responsibility for themselves and also look out for each other.

As well,  our Project 10s and NIS squad keep  feeding talent up into our State Squad and NA, we are kicking some big goals- everyone working together is brilliant”

Travelling Talent Development Coach Sharon Hambly also backed this up: “Fantastic effort by all SA players and coaches! It’s great to see the professionalism by our players in how they warm-up, and also how they carry themselves, both on the court and off.”

Coach and Talent Development Manager for SA, Brett McLennan, praised the work being done by our local coaches and the Tennis SA player development support structure saying  “South Australia has a really strong coaching network and they are doing a great job in laying the foundations for our emerging athletes. Combined with programmes such as the 10/U Association Talent Development squads and the Tennis SA NIS squads, we will continue to have these great results on a National level.”
