Finalists for the 2012 Tennis SA Community Tennis Award categories have today been named in anticipation for the Tennis SA Annual Awards night which will be held this Friday 9 November at Next Generation Clubs, North Adelaide.

The annual event aims to recognise the outstanding contribution made by Tennis SA’s clubs, volunteers and coaches throughout the year whilst also celebrating the success of elite South Australian players representing the State on a national and international level.

Finalists for the Tennis SA Community Tennis Award categories include:

Elite South Australian sports persons are recognised via the following Tennis SA Awards categories;

  • The Boyce Medal is awarded to the best and fairest female player who is based and plays most of their tennis in South Australia. This is the most prestigious award for female players in the state.
  • The Burr medal is awarded to the best and fairest male player who is based and plays most of their tennis in South Australia. This is the most prestigious award for male players in the state.
  • Gwen Thiele Memorial Trophy is awarded to the best Female tennis player under the age of 18 who is based and plays most of their tennis in South Australia.  This is the most prestigious award for female players in the state under the age of 18.
  • Don Turnbull Trophy is awarded to the best Male tennis player under the age of 18 who is based and plays most of their tennis in South Australia.  This is the most prestigious award for male players in the state under the age of 18.
  • The Peter Carter, Nick Altman and Jeff Penfold Awards recognises the Male and Female player of the year across the 12 & Under, 14 & Under and 16 & Under age groups. The criterion for the award recognises an individual’s best performances as well as being regarded as the complete sportsperson.

Past recipients of these awards include several famous South Australians, such as Mark Woodforde, Roger Rasheed, Lleyton Hewitt and Alicia Molik.

All winners will be announced on the evening by MC Mark Soderstrom.

The annual Tennis SA Annual Awards night will be held from 6.00pm – 8.00pm this Friday 9 November 2012 at Next Generation Clubs, North Adelaide.

Tennis SA Annual Awards night tickets are still available.  A ticket for the event is $25 for children (under 18yrs) and $35 for adults and includes a 2-hour drinks package and canapés.

Tickets can be purchased via Tennis SA on (08) 7224 8100 or by submitting the club booking form before 5.00pm this Wednesday.
