The SA 14/u Boys team finished on a high winning its last 3 matches against Northern Territory, NSW’s/ACT and New Zealand to finish 5th in the standings out of 10 teams. Lliam Bishop was the standout here winning his last 3 singles matches. Congratulations and a big thank you to Lachlan Ferguson who came in at the last minute to coach the team. While the boys finished on a high the girls finished on a low losing their last 3 matches against Victoria, West Australia and New South Wales. The SA girls teams still finished a credible 4th. The qualifying draw for the 14s Nationals start on Tuesday with the main draw starting on Wednesday. Over the weekend Milo Bradley, Daniel Buberis and Craig Mousley joined the team in Melbourne in readiness for some busy weeks ahead. Joel Kerley comes into Melbourne on Monday for the 14s Nationals.
The 18s Qualifying Singles got underway with 4 SA athletes competing. The draw size here is 16 athletes with 2 qualifying through to the 18’s Nationals that starts on Tuesday. Lawrence Bataljin won both rounds today in straight sets and will play his last qualifying round tomorrow. If Lawrence can qualify it will see one quarter of the draw occupied by South Australians. Nicole Collie won her 1st round qualifying match and then lost in the afternoon to WTA ranked player Elizabeth James. Chloe Hule and James Ma both lost in the 1st Rd of Qualifying.
Monday is a big practice day for the SA team with all 14s athletes training.
Jack Schipanski, Brad Mousley, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Brooke Rischbieth are also training in preparation for the 18s and Bojana Bobusic is preparing for the AO Wildcard Playoff.
