The Asia-Pacific Tennis League hosted 5 conferences in 2012 (WA, SA, Vic, NSW and Qld) with the winners participating in the ATL finals at Melbourne Park during the Australian Open 2013.
Teams from the Pacific Oceania and New Zealand also participated in the ATL finals during the Australian Open (please see ATL Finals team lists attached). Tennis Australia and the Member Associations are now planning for the 2013 season and we are calling for Expression of Interests from affiliated clubs in Australia.
Each team consist of 4 singles and 2 doubles across two courts. The ATL plays a shortened format with sets to 4 games, no-ad scoring and let’s in play off the serve. A typical team tennis match will last about 3 hours. Most teams require 6 players or more for a season to account for team dynamics, injuries and scheduling.
In order to be eligible to participate in the ATL your team must represent a tennis club or tennis centre and be willing to coordinate and manage a playing list. Tennis Australia will contribute to prize money and or player payments but it expected (but not mandated) that a club is willing to pay players to participate in this professional / semi professional league. Last season ATL clubs hosted 1 or 2 home matches or all matches were played at a central location depending upon the conference management.
The Asia-Pacific Tennis League is aimed at providing professional opportunities for Australian Tennis players within a team environment. We aim to reward the highest performing club team in the region.
If your club may be interested in submitted a team in this professional / semi-professional tennis league then please complete the ATL Expression of Interest form and return it to Tennis Australia at [email protected] by no later than COB Friday 29th March 2013.
