WITH only three weeks left for the Tennis SA Hot Shots clinic, trainers have noticed big improvements in their little champions.

Run by the Keith Tennis Club in conjunction with Tennis SA, volunteer coach Kristy Clark said children participating in the eight week clinic had shown great improvement.

Reception to Year 2 players had gone from very little coordination to small rallies.

The Year 3 to 7 players had learned how to score games and also produce rallies.

At the end of the clinic players get their own T-shirt and become members of Tennis SA.

“Now that we (Keith Tennis Club) have had a Tennis Club) have had a really good seasons hopefully children come back for a proper (modified) competition and obviously

Hot Shots for the little kids next year,” Mrs Clark said.

There are now three weeks left for the clinics which began in early February to interested children and volunteer parents.

Coordinator Jane Thompson said the class had gone really well.

“We’ve had support from Tennis SA’s coaching and development officer Andrew Wilson who had come down for a few training sessions to run the Hot Shots program,” Mrs Thompson said.

Run each Saturday, children’s classes up to Year 2 work on a rotation Year 2 work on a rotation format.

Starting with a five minute warm up session, then on to activities. Groups are taught in a number of six.

The program started in 2012 because of interest shown from children coming to support their parents play on Saturdays.

The Keith Tennis Club has 51 members, with many having helped out in getting the club up and running.

Ms Thompson said the club “are very fortunate to have good committee and club members and volunteers to help with the club.”

This year there are 81 children signed up to be Little future ‘hots involved.
