25 March 2013 | Tennis SA

Important information for visitors to Tennis SA.

Please see below information regarding Riverbank works and associated traffic restrictions.  Please note – signage will be in place for all restrictions, and we ask that motorists and pedestrians observe the changed conditions and travel safely through the worksite.

Morphett Street Bridge

The kerbside lane of Morphett Street Bridge city-bound will be closed to motorists until approximately late 2013. This is to facilitate works necessary to construct the Stage 1 building. Pedestrian access across the bridge is diverted to the opposite side. Cyclists and motorists share the inner lane.

Festival Drive loop road (adjacent rail)

The Festival Drive loop road (adjacent to the rail line) is open as a single lane contra-flow controlled by traffic lights (refer attached map). Pedestrian access is maintained.  This arrangement will remain in place until approximately mid to late 2013.

The operation of this contra flow will be periodically affected by specific works.  We ask that motorists observe the signals and direction of the traffic controllers on site.

Festival Drive adjacent river and ramp up to Montefiore Rd

The Festival Drive ramp up to Montefiore Road is reduced to one lane only and is managed daily as a contra flow exit/entry to the Precinct as follows:

  • 2am to 10am – Entry only (from Montefiore turning left into Precinct)
  • 10am to 2am – Exit only (from Festival Drive turning left onto Montefiore towards city)

These arrangements will be in place until completion of Stage 1 of the redevelopment in late 2014.

Works adjacent North Terrace

North Terrace between the Morphett Street bridge and the Intercontinental Hotel will be periodically controlled by traffic controllers until 2014 to facilitate truck movements associated with piling. Signage will be in place, and we ask that motorists and pedestrians observe the changed conditions and travel safely through the worksite.

Riverbank Bridge

Preparatory work on the Riverbank Bridge has commenced.  This includes site establishment and service relocations.

Over the next few weeks further works will be undertaken such as preparation on the footings in the river at both the bridge’s north and south landing points.

To protect the safety of workers and the public, fencing will be erected around the work zone on both sides of the river.

Access to the Riverwalk (north of the Dunstan Playhouse) will be available until 17 March after which time users will be directed to the Riverbank Promenade and the Adelaide Festival Centre complex.   On the northern side users of the shared path will also be detoured around the site.

Directional signage will be placed to explain these temporary access arrangements

No onsite car parking is available at Memorial Drive.
