The MLC Tennis Hot Shots in Schools program can provide primary school students with their first experience of tennis. Regardless of age, gender or skill level, tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by all. Tennis helps develop students’ fundamental motor skills and is fun for both the teacher and students.

Ms Sue Schubert, Primary and Secondary Physical Education Teacher at Torrens Valley Christian School shares with Tennis SA the success the school has found with the program.

Dear Tennis SA,

The MLC Tennis Hot Shots program has been a sensational addition at Torrens Valley Christian School. With no actual tennis courts, limited space and resources, the modified small size of the Hot Shot courts is perfect for use in our school`s multi- purpose hall and on the netball courts.

Everyone was excited when the beautifully presented colourful equipment, (tennis racquets, balls and nets) arrived. The modified racquets and balls make it easier for students to succeed and thus produces a greater participation rate. As such Hot Shots is a really fun way for students of all abilities to play tennis.

A group of 24 students participated in a Hot Shots display during our recent school Open Day. This generated much interest amongst both students and parents. Tennis SA`s support of our Hot Shots program has been a key factor in its` successful implementation.

Tennis SA’s Senior Community Tennis Officer, Anne-Marie Handke, and Tea Tree Gully’s Tennis Club Head Coach Jason Todd, have both provided ongoing practical support and assistance. Our school has enjoyed their expertise and encouragement. Jason`s manner and technical advice has helped establish and create enthusiasm.

We look forward to continuing growth in enjoyment, skills and participation as the school develops teams to take part in the MLC Hot Shots Red Ball Competition in October at Memorial Drive.
