The Flagstaff Hill Tennis Club (FHTC) and Flagstaff Freighters ATL team have been recognised at the City of Onkaparinga excellence awards held at the Civic Centre in Noarlunga for their outstanding achievement in winning the 2013 Women’s Asia Pacific Tennis League (ATL) crown.

The Flagstaff Freighters qualified for the National Playoff’s after going through the South Australian conference undefeated and taking out the state title in November 2012.  Played at Melbourne Park during the second week of the Australia Open the Freighters were up against teams from across Australia and the Asia-Pacific Region.

The award was presented by Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg who remarked the National title was an “outstanding achievement” especially for a club the size of Flagstaff Hill to compete with some of the biggest Tennis Clubs in Australia.

FHTC President Ross Kauscke commented “This is a tremendous recognition and privilege for all involved.

On behalf of Jim Chaousis (coach), the Flagstaff Hill Tennis Club Board and members we thank the City of Onkapringa for their ongoing support.

We’re proud our promotion of grassroots tennis in the community extends into elite performance – which is an integral component of this award.”

The Flagstaff Hill Tennis Club and The Freighters now turn their attention to the 2013 ATL State Conference to be played throughout November. The 2013 team will feature former Australian Open player Jessica Moore and has retained touring players Karolina Wlodarczak and Viktorija Rajicic.
