The 2013 Tennis SA Silver AMT was held from 19-22 September at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre, North Adelaide. The event attracted players from all over Australia, with $5,000 worth of prize money up for the taking.
The men’s draw was lead by number two seed Todd Ley and number three seed Yuya Ito, after number one seed Darren Polkinghorne was forced to withdraw following his inclusion in the main draw event at the Cairns Tennis International.
The women’s draw was headlined by number one seed Nicole Collie and number two seed, Adelaide National Academy student, Chloe Hule.
The men’s draw brought with it some surprises with number four seed, Andrew Zelea defeated in the round of 16 by South Australian, Tyson Devine 5-7, 6-0, 6-4. Todd Ley was then defeated in the quarter finals by seventh seed David Bidmeade 6-3, 7-5, who backed it up with a win over Sam Longhurst in the semi final 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. In the other half of the draw, Yuya Ito swiftly made his way to the final losing just 14 games in four matches. Ito defeated Bidmeade to claim the men’s title 6-1, 6-2.
The women’s draw also brought some upsets. Fifth seed Petra Hule made her way through to the final with a wins over Nicole Collie in the quarter final and number three seed Brooke Milner in the semi final. In the other half of the draw, number four seed Nicole Kraemer enjoyed a run to the semi final without dropping a set, as did Chloe Hule, who prevailed in the semi final 6-0, 6-3 to set up a final round clash against her younger sister Petra. Chloe defeated Petra in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 to claim the women’s title.
In the men’s doubles final, Yuya Ito and Luke Smith defeated David Bidmeade and Luke Chigwidden 6-0, 7-6, whilst in the women’s doubles final Nicole Collie and Nicole Kraemer defeated Chloe and Petra Hule 6-2, 6-7, 10-4.
