Luke Saville (Barmera, SA) fought his way back from a set down to take home the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis International # 2 title on Saturday.
World No.482 Saville defeated Yasutaka Uchiyama (JPN) 4-6 6-4 6-4 to collect his first Futures title of 2013.
“It was a tough match, I fought pretty hard there. It was a disappointing first set, being a break up, but the second and third set I played extremely well.”
“It’s great to get the win. It’s my first (title) in over a year so I’m pretty stoked” Saville said.
Saville had not won a match on the courts at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre before this week.
Dane Propoggia (Eastlakes, NSW) and Jose Statham (NZ) paired up for the second week in a row to defeat third seed, Yasutaka Uchiyama (JPN) and Yuki Bhambari (IND), 6-4 6-3.
The pair now have a combined 47 Pro Tour doubles titles and this week’s victory is their sixth as a pair.
Saville will now head to Victoria for the Victorian Tennis International, a US$50,000 ATP Challenger event. Qualifying will begin on Saturday 19 October, with main draw starting Monday 21 October.
“It’s a great confidence builder going into the Challengers.”
“There are more points up for grabs there, so I am really looking forward to a couple of great weeks ” Saville added.
