The 2013/14 Coopers Alehouse Metro Lawn State League is well underway with the league approaching its third round this coming Saturday. So far the competition has seen some classic battles between South Australia’s best players.
In round one, 2014 World Tennis Challenge player and US Open Junior boys finalist Thanasi Kokkinakis made an appearance for the Glenlea Tennis Club proving too strong for up and coming youngster Raf Azhar. Kokkinakis showed some good signs for the summer ahead with a solid 6-2 6-2 win.
The round two highlights for the men’s league included a classic three setter between Tea Tree Gully’s Josh Crowe and Trinity youngster Li Tu. Crowe was able to comeback from a set down to win the deciding set 6-2. Unfortunately Crowes win was not enough to get his team over the line as Trinity beat Tea Tree Gully by on sets after rubbers were equal at six all.
In the Women’s League round two saw Chloe Hule and Petra Hule lead Seaside to a close win over reigning champions Goodwood Tennis Club. The Hule girls, who have recently returned from successful overseas and interstate tours both had straight sets singles wins to set up the win.
