The Trinity Titans men have sent a clear message to the competition with a dominant display beating the Broadview Tigers six rubbers to love in the third round of the Asia Pacific Tennis League. The Titans only dropped two sets for the match as their depth was too much for the Tigers. ATP ranked player Colin Ebelthite was pushed by young Tiger Kurtis Wilson but finished strongly to win 4-3 4-1 while Li Tu and Adam Alessandrini had straight sets wins for the Titans.
The Drive Men’s team proved too strong for the Tea Tree Gully Timberwolves on Centre Court at Memorial Drive. The Drive’s Paul Kramberger was too consistent for volatile Timberwolf Josh Crowe winning the number one singles rubber 2-4 4-2 4-2. Krambergers younger teammate’s Yuya Ito and Lawrence Bataljin both had straight sets wins to lead The Drive to an important four rubber to two win.
In the Women’s draw the Tea Tree Gully Timberwolves again proved to the competition they are one of the teams to beat with a surprise four rubber to two win over The Drive. The win was masterminded by Timberwolves coach Jason Todd who used the order of merit rule to his advantage to create the best possible singles match up’s for his team. Claudia May had an outstanding victory over The Drives Alex Cannizzaro at number one singles, coming from a set down to win 1-4 4-2 4-3. At number four singles Jeanette Lin had a strong win over The Drive Japanese recruit Asaka Hiura 4-3 4-1.
The Goodwood Saints notched their first win of the competition beating the Glenlea Gators four rubber to two. Brooke Milner got the Saints off to a great start beating Gator Olivia Ley 4-1 2-4 4-0. Amber Marshall continued her impressive form for the Saints with a straight sets win over Madison Frahn. Goodwood closed out the match winning both doubles matches in a super tiebreak.
In the final women’s match the Trinity Titans were overwhelmed by the strength of the Flagstaff Freighters line up going down six rubbers to love. Titan Leah Daw fought hard but could not manage hard hitting Freighter Viktorija Rajicic. Rajicic who is a contender to earn an Australian Open wildcard in January won the tie 4-1 4-2. Petra Hule made her first singles appearance of the year for the Freighters and started in style winning 4-0 4-3 over Trinity’s Amy Yusa.
