American Bradley Klahn has won the 2014 Charles Sturt Adelaide International after beating Japans Tatsuma Ito 6-3 7-6 in windy conditions at West Lakes Tennis Club.
Klahn quickly adapted to the tricky conditions and won the first set comfortably against Ito. In the second set the American number one seed claimed an early break and looked set to claim the match when serving at 5-3 however Ito managed to break Klahn and force the match to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak the Japanese third seed had set points but was unable to convert and Klahn eventually claimed a nail biting the tie break 11-9 to seal the match and the 2014 title.
It was Klahn’s second Challenger win of the year and moves his ranking up to the mid 60’s meaning he will now get direct entry to most top level ATP events around the world.
In the doubles American Jamere Jenkins and New Zealands Marcus Daniel beat third seeds Rubin Stathan and Australian Dane Propoggia. Jenkins and Daniel, who were playing together for the first time this week were too strong on serve and won the match 6-4 6-4.
