Tennis SA is heading in to an exciting period with the Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS).
2014 Medibank Good Sport Awards
Generation Better and The Medibank Junior Development Series isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about encouraging kids to get out there and have a go. Spectators are being encouraged to nominate children who show commitment and enthusiasm and display a positive attitude throughout the series for a 2014 Medibank Good Sport Award.
Each month between 1 May and 30 November this year, one winner per state will be selected. The winners will receive: a tennis racquet, balls, bag and towel. More information about the Good Sport Awards and an electronic copy of the nomination form are available here.
2014/15 MJDS Hosting Opportunity
12 months ago, Tennis SA introduced new Rules and Regulations for MJDS events, as well as a calendar which was expanded from 2 to 12 events. For most players, the MJDS provides the ideal introduction to tournament play and forms the link between Hot Shots and Junior Tour Tournaments. It is for these reasons that the MJDS has proven to be a hit with children and parents, as well as successful on all accounts from Tournament Directors.
Tennis SA is now looking ahead to the calendar of events for the remainder of 2014 and 2015.
Current and potential MJDS Tournament Directors are required to attend a compulsory Tournament Sanctioning Workshop at Tennis SA on Wednesday, 25 June from 9.30am to 12.00pm. This workshop will be followed by a Tournament Planner Workshop from 12.15pm to 2.00pm.
RSVP to Ty Allen ([email protected]) or Breanna Hassam ([email protected]) by Wednesday, 11 June.
Peake Gardens Riverside July MJDS
The Peake Gardens Riverside July MJDS will be the third held at the venue in the past year.
The tournament will be held on Friday, 18 July and will be open for 13/u, 11/u and 9/u age groups, with entries closing on Sunday, 13 July. This event will be a Medibank feature event and will play host to Medibank staff during the tournament.
Whilst the tournaments do not hold Australian Ranking points, they add a crucial step in the tournament pathway for children looking to be involved in tournament play. MJDS tournaments have a strong focus on participation, with multiple playing opportunities for each child and the use of modified equipment.
11/u players will use 75% compression Hot Shots Green Balls, whilst 9/u players will use the 50% compression Hot Shots Orange Balls.
Players are encouraged to contact the relevant Tournament Director or visit the Tennis Australia Tournaments website for online entry or the Tennis SA Tournaments page for manual entry.
