The 2014 Tennis SA Silver AMT was held from 20-23 September at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre, North Adelaide. The event attracted players from all over Australia, with $5,000 worth of prize money up for the taking.
The men’s draw was won by number one seed Darren Polkinghorne after number four seed Lawrence Bataljin was forced to withdraw following his inclusion in the main draw event at the HKTC Red Centre AMT Gold in Alice Springs.
The women’s draw was headlined by number one seed Jessica Moore and number two seed, Adelaide’s Nicole Collie.
The men’s draw brought with it some surprises with number three seed, Scott Poudziunas defeated in the round of 16 by Victorian, sixteenth seed David Bidmeade 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Bidmeade backed up with a win over eighth seed Matthew Teivans in the quarter finals 2-6 6-3 6-2. In the other half of the draw, fifth seed Yuya Ito gave number one seed Ryan Agar a lucky break when he was forced to retire due to injury after leading 3-6 4-5. Number two seed Darren Polkinghorne claimed the Men’s title not dropping a set in the tournament.
The women’s draw brought some great matches to Memorial Drive. Number four seed Chloe Hule enjoyed a run to the semi-final facing number one seed Jessica Moore taking the match to three sets which lasted three and a half hours. Number two seed Nicole Collie made her way to the final after winning a tough fought battle against twelfth seed Olivia Ley 7-5 7-5. Jessica Moore defeated Nicole Collie in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 to claim the women’s title.
In the men’s doubles final, Darren Polkinghorne and Scott Poudziunas defeated Joshua Boots and Paul Kramberger 3-6, 6-2 10-6, whilst in the women’s doubles final Nicole Collie and Nicole Kraemer defeated Chloe and Petra Hule 6-2, 6-3.
