This Saturday will see the start of the Coopers Alehouse Metro State League season. The State League which is South Australia’s premier weekly tennis competition will see some of South Australia’s best players representing the eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams playing at venues across Adelaide.
Headlining the matches this weekend’s men’s matches will be The Drive taking on Gully Meat Service TTG with The Drive’s young gun Yuya Ito primed to take on former ATP ranked player Josh Crowe at number one single. Both teams are traditionally very strong State League teams and will be looking to get their season off to a strong start. 2013/14 Men’s Champions Louca’s Seafood Grill Trinity Titans will be keen to open their account when they take on Seaside Loan Ave Legends at Seaside. Seaside welcome back former US College player Matt Langley at number one single, however Langley will have his hands full with Trinity’s rising star and touring player Li Tu.
In other matches Golden Grove take on Kingswood and Broadview will be led by Daniel Hobart who won his first ATP point in Alice Springs only two weeks ago when they play Glenlea who are led by ATP ranked Darren Polkinghorne and Pan Kokkinakis.
The feature match of the women’s draw will see Prospect Tennis Club who are returning to State League after a long absence taking on the might and depth of the Seaside Gasworks Findon Flames. The Flames will have the Hule sisters, Chloe and Petra playing for them this year and will be hard to stop although Prospect have recruited well with young guns Olivia Ley and Madison Frahn lining up in their team.
The Petrov sisters will be looking to lead West Lakes to an early victory when they take on a young Goodwood side with junior stars Amber Marshall and Brooke Milner leading their team. In other matches Kingswood ladies will take on Golden Grove while The Drive will be taking on Gully Subways. Nicole Collie will lead the Drive after a strong year on tour in which she made strong ground and improved her WTA ranking.
