For the first time, an ITF Futures level Wheelchair event will be held at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre. The Memorial Drive Wheelchair Open will be held this week, from 13-14 February 2015 and will be contested by a strong field of Australian players.
World number 56, Keegan Oh-Chee (NSW) and local talent, world number 74, Henry De Cure, will headline the field.
Oh-Chee is currently the third ranked Australian player and will be looking to win back to back South Australian singles titles after winning last year’s Charles Sturt Wheelchair Open held at West Lakes.
De Cure, who hails from South Australia, is working hard to establish himself on tour and will be a tough opponent on home soil. Henry will be looking for a title in Adelaide, after coming runner up to Oh-Chee in last year’s Charles Sturt Wheelchair Open.
New South Wales’ Jerry Markoja and Anderson Parker are also set to star in the field, vying for valuable ITF ranking points and prize money.
“This event showcases a great field of Australian wheelchair athletes competing in the inaugural Memorial Drive Wheelchair Open,” said Dylan Hicks, Memorial Drive Wheelchair Open Tournament Director.
“Memorial Drive Tennis Centre is excited to be holding this event and showcasing an international level wheelchair event” added Hicks.
Play will start on Friday 13 February. Entry to the tournament is free with matches commencing at 8:30am daily. The final will commence on Saturday 14 February at 9:00am.
