7 March 2015 | Tennis SA

It’s been a beautiful day for the singles semi-finals here at the 2015 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International.

In the Men’s third seed Matt Reid (AUS) and  fifth Seed Matthew Barton (AUS), were the first to take to Centre Court. Reid and Barton provided an exciting first set for the crowd that yet again created a great atmosphere for the players. Reid took the first set in a tie break and looked the goods when he leaded 4-2 in the second set until Barton switched back on hitting winners that Reid couldn’t return coming back to take the second set. Barton then went on to continue his good form against an already beaten Reid taking out the match 6-7 6-4 6-1. Barton will now take on Alexander Sarkissian (USA) in the Men’s Final who knocked out local talent Daniel Hobart (AUS). Sarkissian seemed untroubled by the big crowds that came in to see his opponent, winning the opening set  6-2. Hobart looked drained from the previous two three setters and was unable to fall into rhythm, Sarkissian took advantage of this taking out the match in straight sets 6-2 6-2.

In the women’s Fourth seed Na-Lae Han (KOR) took on Mana Ayukawa (JPN), with both players playing exceptional tennis in the first set that came down to one break of serve awarding Han the opening set 6-3. In the second set Ayukawa was troubled by her shoulder having a medical timeout early in the second set. Ayukawa continued to put in her best efforts but was unable to claim a game in the second set going down 6-3 6-0 to Han.  Han will now prepare for the final against  number three seed Su Jeong Jang (KOR) who defeated seventh seed Sandra Zaniewska (POL) comfortably in straight sets 6-1 6-3, proving why she’s the highest seed left in the women’s draw. Jang will now look to claim her second singles title in South Australia after winning the Clare Valley Tennis International last week.

Tomorrow will be singles final day, with the Men’s Final between [5] Matthew Barton (AUS) and [7] Alexander Sarkissian (USA) to start at 11:30am, Followed by the Women’s Final [4] Na-Lae Han (KOR) and Su Jeong Jang (KOR). Spectators are encouraged to attend, with free entry.
