South Australian young guns Petra Hule and Daniel Hobart have taken out the women’s and men’s singles titles at the 2015 Tennis SA Queens Birthday Tournament held at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.

16 year old Petra Hule won through to the final without dropping a set where she met former college player Elyse Edwards who had progressed to the final as a wildcard entrant. Hule played some very aggressive tennis early in the first set which Edwards struggled to handle with Hule comfortably taking out the first set 6-1. In the second set, Edwards pushed away to a 2-0 lead before Hule fought back to take the set to a tie break. Hule was able to win key points in the tie break and went on to win the match and the title with a 6-2 7-6 win.

In the men’s event, Port Pirie native Daniel Hobart also won through to the final without dropping a set. Hobart came up against fellow touring player Sam Longhurst from Happy Valley in the final where both men played some high level tennis. Hobart was able to get on top early and won the first set 6-2. In the second Longhurst managed to stay with Hobart early before the power and class of Hobart proved too strong and he went on to win his first Queens Birthday Tournament title 6-2 6-3.

Hule and Hobart are young players on the rise who will be looking to use their respective titles as a springboard to future events on the ITF, ATP and WTA tour over the coming years.

In the doubles, Nicole Kraemer and Claudia May upset number one seeds Chloe and Petra Hule with a 6-2 7-6 win to take out the women’s doubles title. In the men’s doubles, Hobart and Longhurst combined to take out the title after overcoming number three seeds Mislav Bosnjak and Tyson Devine 6-4 6-4.

A big thank you to all players who participated in the Tennis SA Queen’s Birthday Tournament.
