NETA Knights men and Prospect Flame ladies make it 4-0 after four rounds of the ATL

The NETA Knights and the Prospect Flames have move to a 4-0 record after the fourth round of the Asia Pacific Tennis League played at Broadview last night. In the men’s competition, NETA were able to win some tight singles matches against The Drive which set them up for the win. Number one and two singles players Brad Mousley and Darren Polkinghorne were both in impressive form with straight sets wins while Knights youngster Sam Longhurst and veteran Josh Crowe were also solid with wins over their respective opponents.

The Drive managed to register their only win in the 1-5 loss when Luke Smith and Ryan Agar teamed up to win at bottom double.

The win for NETA mean’s they are very well placed ahead of rounds five and six played in Perth over the coming weekend. The ATL Conference structure will see the top two men’s and women’s teams move into the Conference finals where they will play the top two placed teams in Pool A of the South Conference which is likely to be two powerful Melbourne based clubs.

For The Drive, they will need to have big win over the Tasmanian Devils in round five and follow it up with a win over the Western Wildlings on home soil to be any chance of progressing to the Conference Finals stage, played from the 4-6 December in Melbourne.

In the ladies competition the Prospect Flames moved to a 4-0 record when they had a 4 rubber to 2 win over the Kensington Wildcats. The Flames were not expected to a contender in the ATL Pool and have taken all before them over the past four rounds to be assured of a top finish and a place in the Conference finals. American recruit Jennifer Elie again proved to be a major factor as she beat South Aussie Nicole Collie at top sinlges, Prospects youngsters then did the rest as Amber Marshall had an impressive win over Chloe Hule and Olivia Ley had another solid win over Nicole Kraemer. Selina Turulja was able to register a singles win for the wildcats when she had a good win over Maddi Bishop.

Prospect will now go to Perth looking to work out what their best singles line up is and ensure they are getting their doubles combinations right for the Conference finals.

For the Wildcats, it has been a very disappointing campaign and they will head to Perth this weekend looking to salvage some pride.
