Tennis SA is set to hold the seventh straight Be Active Challenge this January with a record 23 venues and 15 events making up the four week carnival.
The Be Active Challenge, held from 27 December-18 January is Australia largest tennis participation event and aims to provide a tennis experience for people of all ages and abilities.
The highest profile event of the WTC Be Active Challenge, the City of Onkaparinga ATP Challenger is being held for the second straight year at the Happy Valley Tennis Club from the 2-10 January. The ATP Challenger event offers USD$75,000 in prizemoney and attracts a field of elite international professional players including some of Australia’s best.
The popular WTC Kids Tennis Day is back in 2016 and will this time take place at the Happy Valley Tennis Club on the finals day of the ATP Challenger. The WTC Kids Tennis Day is a free event and aims to provide an exciting and engaging tennis experience for kids between 5 and 12 years of age.
The major participation events in the Be Active Challenge are the WTC Country Carnival and WTC Les Tapp OAM Inter Association.
The WTC Country Carnival brings junior and senior players from across South Australia together to compete in a five day teams and individual event. The WTC Country Carnival is held at Next Generation, Memorial Drive and is expected to have over 500 competitors take part in the event in 2016.
The WTC Les Tapp OAM Junior Inter Association will see players from the age of 8-17 take part in teams events played over four days at venues across Adelaide. The event provides a great team tennis experience for junior players from different metropolitan based associations. Junior players get the opportunity to meet new people and form friendships with kids from other clubs and associations.
Six Australian Rankings (AR) tournaments are also part of the event list for January. The AR tournaments are comprised of three Australian Money tournaments and three Junior Tour tournaments. In total the AR tournaments are expected to attract over 800 entries and will provide a tournament style playing opportunity for players of different ages and abilities.

The participation arm of the event, the Be Active Challenge has gone from strength to strength and is set to hit record entry and participation numbers in 2016,” Said Tennis SA CEO Steve Baldas.
