Day 5 of the City of Onkaparinga ATP Challenger 2016 has seen the first four players move through to the singles quarter finals on another blustery day at Happy Valley.
South Australia’s Alex Bolt had a comprehensive 6-3 6-2 win over Nils Langer (GER) in the first match on Centre Court, however the South Australian luck didn’t continue for Bradley Mousley, with Victoria’s Andrew Whittington taking the win 7-5 6-3. In the all American match of the day, Alexander Sarkissian and eighth seed Taylor Fritz had a two hour and twenty minute marathon, with Fritz coming out victorious 6-3 6-7(0) 7-6(5). Whilst on Court 6, Dennis Novak (AUT) had a straight sets win over Aldin Setkic (BIH) 6-4 6-4.
In first round doubles matches, number one seeds, Carsten Ball (AUS) and Frank Moser (GER) have been knocked out by Matteo Donati (ITA) and Andrey Golubev (KAZ) 7-6(4) 6-3, whilst Dudi Sela (ISR) and Igor Sijsling (NED) took the win over the third seeded Australian pairing of Bolt and Whittington, 6-3 6-3. In the first of the doubles quarter finals, second seeds Denys Molchanov and Aleksandr Nedovyesov have booked themselves a place in the semis with a 6-0 6-7(3) 10-7 win over Alejandro Gonzalez (COL) and Renzo Olivo (ARG).
Day 6 is headlined by two Aussies in action. Qualifier Dayne Kelly (Vic) is set to take on number one seed Dudi Sela in the second match on Centre Court, not before 12:30pm, with fellow qualifier Maverick Banes (QLD) to take on Marton Fucsovics (HUN) in the second match on Court 6, not before 12:00noon. In doubles, South Australia’s Bradley Mousley is set to take to the court again with Harry Bourchier (Tas) in their quarter final clash against Sela and Sijsling, not before 2:30pm on Centre Court.
