The Prospect Flames have competed strongly at the Asia Pacific Tennis League Playoff’s in Melbourne to finish in equal fifth spot.

The Flames took on the Brisbane Sharks in their first match and started strongly with Jess Moore winning her match at top singles in straight sets. Unfortunately for the Prospect, American Jennifer Elie could not convert on five match points and eventually lost her match at second single in three tight sets. Olivia Ley also went down in a close three setter while at fourth single Elyse Edwards struggled to get going after injuring her leg. After losing both doubles matches the Flames went down five rubbers to one to the Sharks.

On day two the Flames took on Canberra Velocity, Jess Moore was a again too strong at top singles for Velocity’s Alison Bai while Jennifer Elie made amends with a strong performance at second single to win in straight sets. Olivia Ley and Brooke Milner both fought hard at third and fourth singles but came up short leaving the Flames two rubbers all after the singles matches were played.

In the doubles, Prospects Indi-Arna Morris and Amber Marshall were soundly beaten leaving the Flames needing to win the top double to win the tie overall. Jess Moore and Jennifer Elie combined to win a nail biting doubles 5-3 in the third set tiebreak to get the Flames over the line for a fifth place finish.

Credit must be given to all involved at the Prospect Flames for their effort in getting the team to the ATL Playoff’s and for their outstanding efforts over the last two days.
