One of Australia’s most accomplished women’s doubles pairings, Casey Dellacqua and Ashleigh Barty, will return to action at the 2016 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International.
Nineteen-year-old Barty launched her comeback to professional tennis this month at back-to-back Australian Pro Tour events in Perth, winning a doubles title in her first outing alongside Jessica Moore.
Dellacqua, the world No.3 ranked doubles player, returns following a four-month lay-off due to injury. The 31-year-old’s comeback also commenced this month, when she teamed up with Sam Stosur to win the deciding doubles rubber in the Fed Cup tie against Slovakia.
Dellacqua and Barty have won two WTA doubles titles and reached three Grand Slam doubles finals.
“To have Ash and Casey back playing tennis is fantastic and we’re especially excited to see them pair up here in Port Pirie,” said local organiser Neil Lucas.
“Casey won the singles event here a few years ago so she will be welcomed back with open arms and we’re also looking forward to watching Ash Barty on her comeback.”
The 2016 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International will take place at Port Pirie and District Tennis Association, Port Pirie, South Australia from 20-28 February. Main draw singles matches commence on Tuesday 23 February.
