Men’s

In the men’s competition, top of the table Collingrove found themselves locked in a tight battle against The Drive. Collingrove eventually came away with a four rubbers to two win, but not before four, three set matches that had the potential to go either way. Matt Teivans took a 6-2 4-6 6-0 win over The Drive’s Jonathan Norodom, while Jack Alberton had a relatively straightforward win over Sean Swierk 6-0 6-2 and Simon Bates defeated David Abfalter 7-6 4-6 6-1 to put Collingrove in a commanding position.

Second ranked Broadview cemented their position on the ladder with a four rubbers to two victory over Glenlea. Glenlea’s Stephen Clasohm took a close win over Martin Richards 7-6 7-6, however Kurtis Willson, Lliam Bishop and Lachlan Smith steadied the ship for Broadview taking straight sets wins in their singles matches. In other matches, Tea Tree Gully defeated Golden Grove five rubbers to one and Trinity were gifted the win from Seaside.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Collingrove are set to take on Broadview, whilst Trinity will take on The Drive. Collingrove and Broadview have had some tight matches this season with the record sitting at one a piece. The latest meeting in round 12 ended with Collingrove winning by a measly one game, so this weekend’s clash is set to be the match of the round.  Trinity and The Drive have also had some tough battles. Whilst Trinity sit higher on the ladder, The Drive have taken the win in both of their meetings this season, albeit by a single set on each occasion.

Ladies

In the ladies competition, The Drive had a comprehensive six rubbers to love win over an undermanned Prospect team, further solidifying their position at the top of the ladder moving in to finals. Yasmin and Tiana Glazbrook had a great day at the office, both winning their singles and then combined well to win their doubles together.

West Lakes managed a solid four rubbers to two win over the second placed Tea Tree Gully team after some close matches, with the Petrov sisters, Jovana and Stefana, holding strong for their team throughout the day. Kingswood had a tight battle against Glenlea to also take the win four rubbers to two. The match came down to the doubles, however the Kingswood parings combined well to take both doubles matches in straight sets.

Looking ahead to the first week of finals, The Drive is set to take on Tea Tree Gully, while Glenlea will play against Prospect. This weekend’s match ups have interesting head-to-head records. The Drive and Tea Tree Gully hold one match a piece, however in their latest meeting Tea Tree Gully took the win, four rubbers to two. The match between Glenlea and Prospect is also set to be an exciting one between two teams who have had hotly contested matches during the season. Most recently, Prospect defeated Glenlea in a match that was equal on rubbers and sets, however Glenlea managed to take the win in a close match earlier in the season.

Finals begin this Saturday 27 February and will continue on 5 March, with the Grand Final to be held on Saturday 12 March at Memorial Drive.
