 The main draw started with a number of major upsets to at the 2016 Nyrstar Port Pirie Tennis International Protour with the first and second seeds being bundled out in the men’s event. Top seeded Queenslander Gavin Van Peperzeel was stunned by Victorian youngster Daniel Nolan who played the key points extremely well to come away with a 7-5 6-3 win.

Nolan’s fellow Victorian young gun Marc Polmans had one of his best career victories when he ousted South Aussie second seed Alex Bolt. Polmans win was even more impressive considering he lost the first set to Bolt.

In the women’s draw Canberra’s Alison Bai had a marathon victory over top seeded Korean Su Jeong Jang. Bai looked determined to cause an upset from the start and played some outstanding tennis when it mattered most to win a grueling encounter 5-7 6-4 7-5.

Event draw cards Casey Dellacqua and Ashleigh Barty started their doubles comeback in fashion with a solid 6-4 6-1 win.

Today will see local favourite Daniel Hobart start his singles campaign when he takes on Aussie Feda Bilic while fellow South Aussie Paul Kramberger and Damian Farinola also play first round matches.

Bradley Mousley will have a tough match up with Chris O’Connell in the third match on centre court.

Impressive youngster Petra Hule will need to be at her best when she comes up against an in form Arina Rodionova while fellow youngster Kim Birrell takes on American Julia Jones.

Casey Dellacqua and Ash Barty will be in action after 2pm today when they take on Japanese number four seeds Mana Ayukawa and Yuuki Tanaka.
