Riko Sawayanagi and Ya-Hsuan Lee have taken out the 2016 Nyrstar Port Pirie Women’s Doubles title after upstaging crowd favorites Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua. Played in front of a strong crowd, Dellacqua and Barty struggled to find momentum all match as Sawayanagi and Lee capitalized on their opportunities to take the match 6-4 7-5.
Dynamic combination Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington continued their successful partnership with an eighth ITF Futures title when they overcame Marc Polmans and Ruben Statham 7-6 6-3.
Jess Moore and Arina Rodionova both moved through to tomorrow’s semifinals after both registering straight sets wins. Moore is set to take on Austrian fifth seed Barbara Haas while Rodionova will play doubles champion Riko Sawayanagi of Japan.
In the men’s singles, Chris O’Connell’s impressive run continued when he downed Queenslander Maverick Banes in straight sets. O’Connell will now take on Marc Polmans who is making a run of his own after defeating fellow Victorian Andrew Whittington.
Blake Mott will take on New Zealander Ruben Statham in the other semifinal after he was too solid for Dayne Kelly. Mott came out of the blocks quickly to win the first set 6-3 and had to battle hard in the second to take the match 6-3 7-5.
