Men

Broadview have made it through to the men’s State League Grand Final after overcoming 2014/15 State League Champion, Trinity, four rubbers to one. Broadview number one Sam Longhurst won the crucial top singles rubber over fellow young gun Li Tu in three sets to set his team up for the win. Singles win’s to Broadview’s Kurtis Wilson and Tim Crichton also played a major part in the victory.

Broadview will now take on arch rival Collingrove in what shapes as a mouthwatering affair. Collingrove number one Sean Page has been instrumental in his team’s success so far and will need to continue his fine season when he takes on Sam Longhurst this Saturday.

The potential showdown between talented Broadview youngster Kurtis Wilson and former College player Matt Teivans will provide an exciting match up for tennis fans while in form Collingrove youngster Oliver Douglas will have to be at his best ahead of an expected match up with Liam Bishop.

Broadview’s experience will be a major factor in the match with veterans Martin Richards and Tim Crichton both having played in numerous high pressure matches and also being excellent doubles players.

Women

In the ladies competition, a young Glenlea side were far too strong for a gallant Tea Tree Gully. Glenlea number one Elyse Edwards was impressive in her win over promising young gun Amber Marshall with a straight sets win. Edwards win was followed by straight sets wins to team mates Brooke Milner, Nikki Milner and Tayla Whitehouse.

Glenlea will now take on State League Powerhouse, Memorial Drive. Memorial Drive are led by experienced pairing Melanie Clayton and Melissa Beadman at one and two singles position. Youngsters Yasmin and Tiana Glazbrook and Vanessa Cozamanis also provide valuable depth to the Memorial Drive line up while former touring player Michelle Leyden must not be underestimated in big matches.

Glenlea’s Elyse Edwards is in top form after a testing summer while youngsters Brooke and Nikki Milner along with Tayla Whitehouse are hungry for an upset against the more experienced Memorial Drive team.

State League Grand Finals will be held at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre from 1pm on Saturday, March 19. A free sausage sizzle will be provided from 4pm with well-priced drinks provided throughout the day.
